Lindsey Wixson: off to the prom in the custom-made dress designed by Jason Wu

While most 17-year-old girls are desperately persuading their parents for a new, off-the-rack gown for their special evening, it was never going to be a problem for supermodel-in-the-making Lindsey Wixson.

To attend her best friend's prom (Wixson is not currently enrolled in high school), New York Fashion Week designer Jason Wu created a bright blue, off-the-shoulder dress especially for the occasion.

Cue snipping glances from jealous classmates, but with advertising campaigns for Jil Sander, Miu Miu and Mulberry under her belt, the Kansas-born beauty was destined to wear something incredible.

One would imagine that Wu, who shot to overnight fame after creating the floor-length, ivory gown which American First Lady Michelle Obama wore to Barack Obama's inauguration ball in 2009, might not have much time for one-off prom pieces. But he told Teen Vogue : "I loved working together with Lindsey on her prom dress. She has such a great sense of style. She looked beautiful!"

Wixson is not the only model to have Wu on school-party speed-dial. Fellow top model Karlie Kloss , 18, also called upon the Taiwanese-born designer for something to wear to her prom back in 2009.

From high school proms to the White House: Jason Wu has proved himself to be the master of ladylike creations, no matter what the age or occasion.
